In the new sanctuary

"It was incredible to worship in the new sanctuary, in exactly the same spot where we took our team picture last year."
One of the team members, Donna, said that at dinner, and she was right. Last year the spot was nothing but a slab of concrete. Some of the men on our team helped mix the concrete (by hand, mind you) to pour the footers.
This year it was a sanctuary with chairs. Instead of singing a capella, we had a keyboard and a real song leader. The words were displayed on a screen. The sacrament of Holy Communion was flanked by flower arrangements. The pastor's voice was amplified over a PA system.
For all the modern conveniences, the service was no more beautiful than it was last year. The children sang just as sweetly. But it was amazing to think that so much work has been done since we were here last summer.
I think it's safe to say we're all anxious to get to Mama Yoli's daycare tomorrow to do the work we came her to do, love and care for people.
